El Dorado County (Oct 23, 2024) – SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – While fall clings on with sunny skies and mild weather, winter sports enthusiasts have something else in mind. A brief cold spell last week jump-started the snowmaking machines at Lake Tahoe’s ski resorts, signaling the countdown to the 2024-25 ski season.

Northstar and Heavenly are slated to open on November 22, marking the kickoff for skiing and snowboarding this season. Kirkwood plans to follow on December 6, with Sierra-at-Tahoe targeting November 29. Mt. Rose is expected to lead the pack with a November 8 opening, while Palisades Tahoe aims for November 27. Sugar Bowl, Boreal, and Soda Springs also have their sights set on November 22 and November 29 openings, respectively.

Of course, these dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions, so anyone planning a trip should keep an eye on updates from individual resorts.

The question is: Is it too soon to get excited, or are we ready to break out the gear and hit the slopes? With artificial snow covering the early-season slopes, does it compare to the real deal? Let’s hear your thoughts, especially from those who’ve already snagged season passes! Are you planning to ride on opening day, or do you prefer to wait for a solid base of fresh powder?

Drop a comment—whether you’re a die-hard early-bird or a late-season powderhound, what’s your opening day strategy?
