PLACERVILLE, Calif. — El Dorado County voters are entering the final month before California’s June 2, 2026 gubernatorial primary election, with mail ballots scheduled to begin arriving in mailboxes starting May 4.

County election officials say all active registered voters in California will automatically receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the primary election. The election includes statewide offices, judicial contests, county races, supervisor seats, and local measures.

According to the California Secretary of State and the El Dorado County Elections Department, the final day to register to vote online or by mail for the June 2 election is May 18. Voters who miss that deadline may still “Conditionally” register and cast a provisional ballot at a vote center through Election Day.

El Dorado County Elections officials announced ballots will be mailed to active registered voters beginning May 4, the same day county ballot drop boxes officially open.

Early in-person voting also begins later in the month. Eleven-day vote centers are scheduled to open May 23, while additional four-day vote centers open May 30. All vote centers countywide will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, June 2.

“The last day to register to vote for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election is May 18, 2026,”

the California Secretary of State’s office stated in its official voter information release.

Key Election Deadlines for El Dorado County Voters

  • May 4, 2026: Vote-by-mail ballots begin mailing to voters
  • May 4, 2026: Official ballot drop boxes open
  • May 18, 2026: Deadline to register to vote online or by mail
  • May 23, 2026: 11-day vote centers open
  • May 26, 2026: Last recommended day to request a replacement mail ballot
  • May 30, 2026: Additional four-day vote centers open
  • June 2, 2026: Election Day; polls close at 8 p.m.
  • June 9, 2026: Deadline for mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day to arrive and be counted

What Local Races Are on the Ballot?

Several countywide and district races are drawing local attention in El Dorado County.

El Dorado County Board of Supervisors

Two Board of Supervisors seats are on the June ballot:

  • District 4: Four candidates are reportedly seeking the seat being vacated by Supervisor Lori Parlin.
  • District 5: Supervisor Brooke Laine is running unopposed.

Treasurer-Tax Collector

One of the county’s most visible contested races is for El Dorado County Treasurer-Tax Collector.

Candidates include:

  • Sean Coppola, the appointed incumbent Treasurer-Tax Collector
  • Corey Leikauf, a financial auditor challenging for the office

The office oversees county banking, investments, and tax collection operations.

Other County Offices on the Ballot

County election documents show the following offices also appear on the June 2 ballot:

  • Assessor
  • Auditor-Controller
  • Recorder-Clerk
  • Surveyor
  • Superintendent of Schools
  • Superior Court Judge offices 1 through 6

Statewide races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, insurance commissioner, state legislature, and superintendent of public instruction will also appear on ballots.

The El Dorado County Elections Department encourages voters to verify registration status, review sample ballots, and locate vote centers through the county elections website.

Election officials are also reminding voters that completed mail ballots can be returned by mail, deposited in official drop boxes, or delivered directly to vote centers.
