PLACERVILLE — Recently retired El Dorado County Treasurer-Tax Collector Karen E. Coleman has publicly endorsed Sean Coppola for the position she held before retiring in December 2025, citing his leadership, experience and dedication to county taxpayers.

Coleman, who served as the county’s top financial officer responsible for tax collection, treasury management and investment oversight, announced her support in a written statement urging voters to consider Coppola’s background and service within the department.

“As the recently retired Treasurer-Tax Collector of El Dorado County, I am throwing my support behind Sean Coppola for Treasurer-Tax Collector,” Coleman said. “Sean is a natural leader and a lifelong resident of our county, and I’m more than confident that he has what it takes to usher the office into the future.”

According to Coleman, Coppola began working in the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office as an Accounting Division Manager, later earning a promotion to Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector. During his tenure, she said he consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to taxpayers and the county’s financial stability.

Coleman emphasized that the office plays a critical role in local government operations. The Treasurer-Tax Collector oversees the collection of property taxes and other revenues, banking operations for county funds, and the investment of idle public funds, functions that are essential to maintaining the financial integrity of county government.

“He has the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to ensure all of the laws and critical aspects related to the collection of taxes, banking, and investing idle funds are followed,” Coleman said in her statement.

Coleman retired Dec. 26, 2025, after leading the department through multiple fiscal cycles and managing billions of dollars in public funds and tax collections. In her endorsement, she urged voters to prioritize experience and continuity when choosing the county’s next financial steward.

“I hope the voters of our county understand the importance of experience, proven stewardship and stable leadership,” Coleman said. “This is the best way to ensure the financial integrity and continued success of the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office.”

The election for El Dorado County Treasurer-Tax Collector will determine who will oversee one of the county’s most significant fiscal offices, responsible for safeguarding public funds and maintaining transparent financial operations for residents.
