EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — William “Billy V” Vandegrift, a beloved figure in El Dorado Hills civic life and a tireless advocate for community development, passed away peacefully. He was 74.

Billy Vandegrift was best known for his long tenure as a Director of the El Dorado Hills Community Services District, where he served for nearly two decades with distinction, integrity, and an abiding love for the people he represented. Whether he was championing parks and youth programs, advocating for thoughtful land use, or lending his time to senior services, Billy brought steady leadership and deep compassion to the boardroom and beyond.

Born in 1951 and raised in Southern California, Billy graduated from Palos Verdes High School in 1969. He later attended Folsom Lake College and built a successful career in real estate and title services. His work with Old Republic Title and later ventures reflected a deep understanding of property, community growth, and the promise of home. But it was in service—not sales—where he found his true calling.

A resident of El Dorado Hills for more than 30 years, Billy made it his mission to preserve the charm of the town while planning for its future. Known affectionately as “Billy V,” he brought warmth, wit, and a calming presence to often contentious civic meetings. His colleagues recall a man who could listen with patience, argue with clarity, and laugh at himself when needed. His constituents remember someone who returned calls, showed up at soccer games, and never forgot a name.

He was a mentor to many, a friend to all, and a quiet force behind countless community improvements that will benefit generations to come. His personal passions included classic cars, local history, and time with his family, whom he adored above all else.

He was a neighbor, a leader, and a man of unshakable principle. El Dorado Hills is better because he lived here.

Rest in peace, Billy V. You gave your all, and we will carry it forward.
