Lotus (April 5, 2024) – With profound sadness, we relay the somber news of the departure of Alvin Carl de Haas from our midst, a cherished cornerstone of our community, who transitioned from this earthly realm on March 11th, 2024. Alvin’s journey through life was marked by selfless service, unwavering dedication, and boundless love for his family and fellow beings.

Alvin’s odyssey commenced with valor as he bravely served his nation during the tumultuous era of the Vietnam War. His dedication to service led him to join a fire crew for the US Forest Service, where he eventually became a vital part of the Camino Forest Service, overseeing the Seedling production process until his retirement in 1997.

During his lifetime, Alvin found joy in family and community. He married the love of his life, Carol Louise Winje, and together, they raised three children: Kurtis , Dayna , and Lukas Merlin. Alvin’s passion for youth sports led him to spend countless hours coaching children in the area, particularly in soccer, leaving a lasting impact on many young lives. Some of the best years of his life were when he was able to spend the winter with his Bashford Family, visiting, helping others, and playing music.

In the wake of his passing, Alvin leaves behind a tapestry of love and kinship, woven with threads of cherished relationships. He is survived by his esteemed older brothers, Mervin and Steven de Haas, his sister-in-law’s Martha and Betty, his children Kurtis, Dayna, and Lukas, his grandchildren Josiah Petanovich and Liam de Haas, his son-in-law Dennis Cambron, his daughter-in-law Hannan de Haas, and his faithful canine companion, Heidy. Additionally, he leaves behind a legacy of love embraced by ten nieces and nephews, whom he embraced as his own: Scott, Kerie, Kathy, Sheryl, Michael, Zev, Kimberlee, LaNaya, Kristi, and Sarah.

Alvin’s earthly journey is preceded by the tender embrace of his parents, Manfred and Pearl de Haas, his cherished wife, Carol Louise de Haas, and his beloved in-laws, Merlin (Buzz) and Florence Winje. Born amidst the bustle of Oakland, California, on July 24, 1944, Alvin etched his essence into the fabric of El Dorado County at the tender age of five. Together with Carol, he laid the foundations of a sanctuary in Lotus in 1979, where he dwelled until his final departure.

Though Alvin has bid farewell to the corporeal realm, his essence lingers on, an ethereal presence that continues to inspire, comfort, and guide. In the quiet recesses of our hearts, his spirit finds solace, forever enshrined in the tapestry of memories and the echoes of his laughter. Farewell, dear Alvin Carl de Haas, rest peacefully knowing that your legacy of love and service will endure through the annals of time. You shall be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives you touched.
