Layoffs Hit John Adams Academy Campus in El Dorado Hills

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — Six employees at the El Dorado Hills campus of John Adams Academy will lose their jobs this spring as part of a broader workforce reduction affecting 68 staff members across the charter school network’s Northern California campuses.

The layoffs follow a March 2026 decision by the academy’s governing board to consolidate its high school program in Lincoln into its Roseville campus, citing declining enrollment and mounting financial losses.

Local Impact in El Dorado Hills

At the El Dorado Hills campus, the staffing cuts span multiple roles tied to both academic support and campus operations. Positions identified for elimination include a middle school academic dean, two administrators, a 504/student success coordinator, a campus supervisor, a school nurse, and substitute teaching staff.

Most affected employees are expected to remain on payroll through May 29, with some contracts extending to June 12, according to organizational timelines.

Unlike many public school districts, employees at the charter network are not represented by a union. However, school officials indicated displaced workers may apply for open roles within the organization.

Systemwide Reductions

The El Dorado Hills layoffs represent a small portion of the broader restructuring effort:

  • Roseville campus: 49 positions eliminated, largely instructional aides
  • Lincoln campus: 13 positions cut alongside the closure of the 9th–12th grade program

School leadership has stated the cuts are necessary to reduce staffing costs by approximately $2.6 million.

Financial Pressures Behind the Cuts

Officials pointed to sustained financial challenges tied to the Lincoln high school program, which has reportedly operated at a deficit for three consecutive years. Projections showed a $950,000 shortfall for the 2025–26 school year, driven in part by what administrators described as “stagnated” enrollment.

The consolidation is intended to centralize resources and stabilize the academy’s long-term financial position.

About the Academy

John Adams Academy operates as a tuition-free public charter system emphasizing “American Classical Leadership Education,” with campuses serving families across Placer and El Dorado counties.
