El Dorado County wineries uncork 35th annual Passport Weekend
PLACERVILLE, Calif. — More than three decades after its founding, the El Dorado Wines Passport Weekend returns April 18–19, 2026, inviting visitors to explore one of California’s most diverse and elevated wine regions.
The 35th annual event, organized by the El Dorado Winery Association, runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and features a self-guided tour through more than 20 family-owned wineries spread across Apple Hill/Camino, Fair Play, Pleasant Valley, and surrounding foothill communities.
Set at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 3,500 feet, the weekend offers a distinctive tasting experience shaped by the Sierra Nevada’s terrain and climate. Participating wineries will showcase limited releases, curated food pairings, and live entertainment designed to highlight the region’s character.
Themed experiences and regional flavor
Each stop along the passport route offers a different atmosphere, from casual to immersive.
At Nello Olivo Winery, guests can step into the “Grapefather Experience,” featuring film-inspired costumes, music, and a lineup of award-winning wines paired with Italian fare.
In Camino, Bumgarner Winery will host a “Country Fair” theme, serving hard ciders alongside apple donuts and hand-dipped corn dogs—a nod to the Apple Hill region’s agricultural roots.
Meanwhile, Crystal Basin Cellars is leaning into a western-style gathering with hearty fare including pork ribs and beans. The winery is also drawing attention for its recent relocation to Cold Springs Road, where visitors will get an early look at its upgraded facilities.
“Come on down. The red chair is waiting for you,” said owner Michael Owen. “This weekend is an early glimpse of CBC 2.0. The team has worked hard to get the tasting room and winery ready, and it’s looking better every day.”
Other stops include Boeger Winery, offering live music and passport-holder discounts, and Golden Leaves Vineyard, where indoor jazz and blues will accompany house-made bites.
A milestone for Fair Play and the foothills
The 2026 event also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Fair Play wine region, a growing destination known for Rhône-style varietals and small-production wineries such as Skinner Vineyards, Narrow Gate Vineyards, and Madrona Vineyards.
Organizers say the weekend not only promotes local wine but also supports small businesses and agritourism across El Dorado County.
Tickets, logistics, and planning ahead
Tickets are available through the El Dorado Winery Association, with options for one-day, two-day, and designated driver passes. Prices begin at $65, with early-bird discounts having closed in January.
Attendees must select a starting winery when purchasing tickets to pick up a commemorative glass and passport. While the event is largely self-guided, some wineries — including Boeger — require advance reservations.
The region is accessible within an hour’s drive from both Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, making it a convenient weekend destination for Northern California residents.
Organizers advise guests to plan routes in advance and check individual winery requirements to ensure a smooth experience.
