PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The Placerville Union School District (PUSD) has announced a public hearing scheduled for May 21, 2025, to discuss the potential adoption of a new mathematics curriculum for its elementary schools. The proposed curriculum, Classroom Mathematics California by i-Ready, is currently being piloted at Sierra and Louisiana Schnell Elementary Schools.

Community members, parents, and stakeholders are invited to review the curriculum materials at the PUSD District Office, located at 1032 Thompson Way, Placerville. The materials are available for public preview during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., through May 21. Attendees can provide feedback by completing an evaluation form available at the office.

The Classroom Mathematics California program is designed to align with the new Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools. It emphasizes student-centered learning and incorporates Universal Design for Learning principles to support diverse learners. According to Curriculum Associates, the publisher of the program, it aims to create accessible and engaging math classrooms that foster positive mathematical identities among students .

This initiative reflects a broader trend among California school districts to proactively adopt updated math curricula ahead of the state’s official list of approved materials. A 2024 report by the Center for Education Market Dynamics noted that districts are increasingly selecting high-quality math programs, such as i-Ready Classroom Mathematics, to replace outdated materials .
