Under the Arbor Revival to Reopen in Placerville

PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A familiar name in El Dorado County’s vintage and home décor shopping scene is returning to Placerville.

Under the Arbor Revival has announced plans to reopen at 289 Placerville Drive, the former location of Under the Arbor, with a grand opening scheduled for Oct. 22-25. The business says the doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The reopening represents a new approach for the longtime local retail concept. Rather than operating as a traditional full-time storefront, Under the Arbor Revival describes itself as a monthly market-style shopping experience, with the location open for several days each month and new merchandise introduced for each event.

The announcement promises a mix of furniture, home décor, restored pieces, vintage treasures and boutique clothing, along with other curated merchandise.

“We’ve been hard at work bringing one of our former spaces back to life — in a whole new way!” the business said in its announcement.

A familiar Placerville location

The 289 Placerville Drive address has a history with Under the Arbor.

The business opened its Placerville location in 2020, expanding from its original Shingle Springs operation. Under the Arbor became known for its mix of consigned furniture, home décor, garden items, vintage merchandise and locally sourced goods.

The Placerville location closed in December 2023. At the time, co-owner Shannon Durgan confirmed the closure but said she and co-owner Rick Durgan retained the lease on the building and were considering possibilities for its future.

City records later identified the 289 Placerville Drive space as having been previously occupied by Under the Arbor for retail sales. A 2025 Placerville Planning Commission staff report listed the property at 289-295 Placerville Drive and identified the former Under the Arbor space at 289 Placerville Drive.

The location’s return therefore represents more than a new retail opening. For local shoppers familiar with the original Under the Arbor, it brings a recognizable name back to a familiar address.

A different kind of shopping experience

The Revival concept appears designed around discovery rather than a conventional permanent inventory.

According to the announcement, merchandise will change from one monthly market to the next, giving shoppers a reason to return regularly to see what has arrived.

That approach fits the broader appeal that helped establish Under the Arbor as a destination for shoppers looking for distinctive furniture, décor and vintage pieces rather than standardized big-box merchandise.

The business’ Shingle Springs location continues to operate at 4120 Sunset Lane, where Under the Arbor maintains its broader home, garden, furniture and consignment operation. Under The Arbor

For Placerville shoppers, the Revival opening offers something slightly different: a limited-time, rotating marketplace where the inventory itself becomes part of the attraction.

The first opportunity to explore the new concept will come during the four-day grand opening, Oct. 22-25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 289 Placerville Drive.

For El Dorado County residents who remember the original Under the Arbor, the message is simple: the doors are opening again — but this time, expect something new behind them.
