A criminal case stemming from the February killing of a Placerville woman is scheduled to return to El Dorado County Superior Court on Friday, Nov. 13, 2026.
Geoffrey Stewart Snyder, 57, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Shelley Snyder, 56. The scheduled hearing is another development in a case that has drawn attention from the Placerville community and the local school community where Shelley Snyder worked.
The specific hearing type, courtroom and time should be confirmed against the court’s current calendar before publication.
Deputies found Shelley Snyder dead at Big Oak Road home
The case began Feb. 17, when El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Big Oak Road south of Placerville following a report of a man brandishing a firearm.
Deputies detained Geoffrey Snyder at the scene and subsequently found Shelley Snyder dead inside the residence from a gunshot wound, according to reporting by CBS Sacramento and The Sacramento Bee. Snyder was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail.
Snyder pleaded not guilty
Snyder was arraigned in El Dorado County Superior Court on Feb. 19, according to local reporting, and pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge. The court ordered him held without bail.
The charge remains an allegation, and Snyder is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Authorities have not publicly established a motive in the reporting reviewed for this article. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office previously said, “The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.”
Shelley Snyder was a longtime local teacher
Shelley Snyder worked for more than 20 years in the Buckeye Union Elementary School District and most recently taught third grade at Buckeye Elementary School near Shingle Springs, CBS Sacramento reported.
Her death affected colleagues, students and families connected to the school community. A district spokesperson told CBS Sacramento: “Our entire district is in shock — none more so than her co-workers and the families and students, past and present, who were part of her classroom.”
