Possible High-Speed Pursuit Reported on Highway 50; Authorities Have Not Confirmed Incident
EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — Reports of a possible high-speed law enforcement pursuit traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 toward Pollock Pines circulated among El Dorado County residents Friday evening, prompting concerns about public safety along one of the county’s primary transportation corridors.
The reported incident remains unconfirmed by an official law enforcement announcement.
Information provided to INEDC describes radio traffic involving a vehicle pursuit that allegedly began in the Placerville area and continued eastbound through the communities of Camino Heights, Cedar Grove and Pollock Pines.
The vehicle was described in preliminary accounts as a tan pickup truck. Reported speeds reached approximately 105 mph, according to the dispatch information supplied to the newsroom.
Reported law enforcement response
The information provided describes coordination between California Highway Patrol (CHP) personnel and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office units as the pursuit reportedly moved farther up Highway 50.
CHP reportedly assumed responsibility for the pursuit, while air support was requested.
The reported route included several recognizable local landmarks and residential areas:
-
Camino Heights: The reported pursuit traveled east of Placerville.
-
Cedar Grove: Additional law enforcement activity was reportedly heard along the corridor.
-
Pollock Pines: Residents reported hearing loud noises resembling gunfire.
-
Ridgeway Drive and Flight Park: These locations were identified in the reported radio traffic as the pursuit continued eastward.
INEDC has not independently verified the vehicle’s route, the reported speeds or the number of responding emergency personnel.
Residents report unusual activity
Community reports also described several emergency vehicles traveling toward the Pollock Pines area.
Some motorists reportedly observed multiple patrol vehicles and at least five ambulances moving along the highway.
Residents near Pony Express Trail also described hearing loud noises resembling gunshots.
At this time, there is no independently verified information establishing whether those sounds were gunfire, vehicle-related noises or another source.
Likewise, the presence of ambulances does not establish that anyone was injured.
What authorities have confirmed
A review of the California Highway Patrol’s publicly accessible traffic incident information did not establish confirmation of the reported pursuit.
The CHP public incident page displayed the notation “Number of Incidents: 0” in its November 6 update at 6:55 p.m. That snapshot predates the latest reports described in this article and should not be interpreted as confirmation that no later incident occurred.
Caltrans provides real-time highway information through its QuickMap traffic and incident system, including CHP incident reports, traffic speeds, closures and highway message signs.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office maintains a Public Information and Press Releases page for official agency updates.
As of this article’s preparation, INEDC has not located an official statement confirming an officer being struck, shots being fired, injuries, an arrest or the final disposition of the reported pursuit.
Public safety reminder for Highway 50 motorists
Residents traveling through Pollock Pines and surrounding communities should exercise caution and avoid interfering with emergency operations.
Motorists should:
-
Give emergency vehicles adequate room to operate.
-
Avoid stopping along highway shoulders to observe law enforcement activity.
-
Do not approach police activity or attempt to follow emergency vehicles.
-
Follow instructions from CHP officers and other emergency personnel.
-
Use Caltrans QuickMap to check for changing traffic conditions.
Anyone witnessing an immediate threat to public safety should contact 911 rather than relying on social media discussions.
INEDC will update this developing story
INEDC will continue seeking confirmation from the California Highway Patrol and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Important unanswered questions include whether a pursuit actually occurred, whether an officer or patrol vehicle was struck, whether anyone was injured, whether a suspect was apprehended and whether Highway 50 experienced any temporary closures.
Until authorities provide confirmation, the details circulating through community discussions and scanner reports must remain classified as unverified.
For El Dorado County residents, the priority is public safety, accurate information and avoiding the spread of speculation during an active or potentially active law enforcement response.
