GEORGETOWN — Officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are searching for an incarcerated man who walked away Tuesday evening from Growlersburg Conservation Camp in El Dorado County.

At approximately 8 p.m., camp staff discovered that Juan David Veramancini, 49, was missing during a routine head count. According to CDCR, staff immediately conducted an emergency count, confirming Veramancini was not on site. Within minutes, agents from the department’s Office of Correctional Safety were deployed to locate and apprehend him, and local law enforcement agencies were notified.

Veramancini was last seen wearing an orange beanie and orange jacket. He may also be wearing either orange pants or gray sweatpants with white tennis shoes or black boots. He is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 152 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities noted he is currently bald.

Veramancini was received from Orange County on July 1, 2024, and is serving a 10-year sentence for first-degree burglary.

In a public statement, CDCR said, “Since 1977, 99 percent of the incarcerated people who have escaped or walked away from an adult institution, camp, in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended.”

Officials are urging residents in Georgetown and surrounding communities to remain vigilant. Anyone who sees Veramancini or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact any law enforcement agency, call 911, or reach Special Agent Keeney at 916-210-9159.

Growlersburg Conservation Camp, located outside Georgetown, houses minimum-custody incarcerated individuals who participate in fire suppression and community service projects. Walkaways from conservation camps are rare, and authorities emphasize that most are quickly resolved.

CDCR did not indicate whether Veramancini poses an immediate threat to the public but encourages caution and prompt reporting of any sightings.
