Now Accepting Submissions: A Call to El Dorado County Writers

El Dorado County (Aug 27, 2024, 2024) – Slope & Basin, a new regional literary journal, is now accepting submissions for its inaugural issue. The journal, rooted in the geography of El Dorado County, aims to capture the unique voices of writers from both the Western Slope of the Sierra Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin. By gathering poetry and prose from local authors, Slope & Basin seeks to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the community’s diverse experiences and stories.

Call of the Slope & Basin

From where the pines meet skyward dreams,
And rivers carve their ancient seams,
A journal rises, ink and breath,
To capture voices, stilled and fresh.

In El Dorado’s cradle wide,
Where slopes and basins gently slide,
We call to poets, writers bold,
Your stories, yet untold, unfold.

Submit your verses, crafted neat,
Or prose that dances with each beat,
Three pages, ten, in single space,
Let your words find their rightful place.

By October’s dawn, let art be sent,
With heart and soul, with pure intent,
For in these lines, our land takes shape,
A mirror to the hills, the lakes.

So send your work, let voices sing,
As autumn’s gold begins to cling,
To Slope & Basin, new and bright,
We’ll stitch our stories, day and night.

For those whose words ignite our flame,
A token small, yet rich in name,
Fifty or seventy-five, it’s true,
But more than that, we honor you.

So rise, El Dorado’s pen and pen,
And let your whispers grow again,
In Slope & Basin, find your home,
Where every corner, word can roam.
