EDCAR Golf Tournament Sells Out, but Fundraising Continues for Local Veterans
EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — The foursomes are filled, the clubs are accounted for and the golf course is set.
But for organizers of the El Dorado County Association of REALTORS®’ 27th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, the real work is just getting started.
The annual fundraiser is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, at Cameron Park Country Club, with check-in beginning at 9 a.m. and an 11 a.m. shotgun start. EDCAR’s official event page confirms the date and location and lists golf, sponsorships and a charity dinner and happy hour as ways to participate.
This year’s golf field has sold out.
That does not mean the fundraising has.
“This tournament has always been about much more than a day of golf,” said EDCAR President Maury O’Hearn.
O’Hearn said the event is intended to bring together REALTORS®, local businesses and community partners to support causes in the community where they live and work.
EDCAR’s board lists O’Hearn as the association’s 2026 president and identifies the association’s office in Shingle Springs.
A Quarter-Century of Giving Back
The tournament has become an annual fixture for EDCAR members, business partners and supporters, combining golf and networking with charitable fundraising.
According to EDCAR, the tournament raises more than $15,000 a year for charitable causes and has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars for the community over its history.
The golf tournament is also part of a larger charitable effort. EDCAR says its various programs, scholarships and fundraising activities provide more than $100,000 in community support each year.
The association’s 2026 tournament page describes the event as a celebration of community and service tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
This Year’s Money Stays Close to Home
For El Dorado County residents, the beneficiaries of this year’s tournament are especially local.
Tournament proceeds will support American Legion Post 119 and the El Dorado County Veterans Monument Scholarship Program.
American Legion Post 119 was chartered in 1919 and has served local veterans and their families for more than a century. The organization provides veterans with opportunities for community connection, support and service. EDCAR identifies the post as one of this year’s tournament beneficiaries.
The county itself lists American Legion Post 119 among local veteran organizations serving El Dorado County. The post is based on Greenstone Road in Placerville.
The Veterans Monument Scholarship Program provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are children of local veterans pursuing higher education. EDCAR says the broader Veterans Coalition also supports veteran assistance, memorial programs, counseling resources, hospice support and assistance for homeless veterans.
That broader network reflects the range of needs facing veterans in El Dorado County.
County records, for example, show local veteran organizations receiving support for programs ranging from emergency assistance to housing, food and services for homeless veterans.
The Golf Is Sold Out. The Giving Is Not.
With the player field full, EDCAR is turning its attention to the fundraising opportunities that remain.
Businesses and individuals can still participate through:
- Tournament sponsorships
- Raffle donations
- Silent or live auction donations
- Gift cards and gift baskets
- Merchandise
- Services and experiences
- Charity dinner and happy-hour tickets
EDCAR’s official tournament page specifically lists sponsorships, donations, auctions and dinner as remaining ways to participate. It lists the charity dinner and happy hour at $75 per person.
For local businesses, the effort also provides a direct connection to the community. EDCAR says sponsors receive recognition connected with the tournament while supporting local veteran-focused organizations.
O’Hearn said that distinction is important.
“Selling out the golf tournament is wonderful, but filling the golf course isn’t our ultimate measure of success,” O’Hearn said. “The money we are able to give back is.”
The message is straightforward: A sold-out tournament guarantees a full course. It does not determine how much money ultimately reaches the organizations being supported.
Dinner Offers Another Way In
Residents who did not secure a foursome are not shut out.
EDCAR is offering a limited number of spaces for its evening happy hour and dinner at Cameron Park Country Club. The event provides an opportunity for community members, business partners and friends to participate without playing golf.
The association’s official event page confirms that dinner and happy hour are open to nongolfing participants and are part of the tournament’s charitable fundraising effort.
For businesses considering a contribution, EDCAR is also seeking raffle and auction items that can be displayed during the event.
Those donations can range from gift cards and merchandise to experiences, services and gift baskets — contributions that can turn an ordinary evening auction into additional dollars for local veterans.
A Community Effort Beyond Real Estate
EDCAR’s role in El Dorado County extends beyond real estate transactions.
The association says its members live, work and raise families throughout the county and that community involvement is a longstanding part of its mission.
Its board is composed of volunteer members who live and work in El Dorado County, according to the association.
This year’s tournament puts that community commitment against a particularly significant backdrop: America’s 250th anniversary.
But the beneficiaries are not national organizations operating somewhere far away.
They are organizations serving people in the foothills — veterans, military families, students and others who need support here in El Dorado County.
For those who missed the chance to tee it up Sept. 28, there is still a way to be part of the event.
The golf tournament may be sold out. The opportunity to give back is not.
