GEORGETOWN, Calif. — Seven-year-old Chloe Swain is being celebrated across El Dorado County after her quick thinking and calm demeanor during a medical emergency helped bring lifesaving assistance to her mother.

According to family members and first responders, Chloe was at home in Georgetown when her mother experienced a sudden medical crisis. Realizing something was seriously wrong, the young girl immediately called 911, provided critical information to emergency dispatchers and remained composed while help was dispatched to the family’s location.

Emergency officials have long emphasized that rapid notification can be the difference between life and death during a medical emergency. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Central Dispatch serves as the county’s primary public safety answering point for emergency calls and works around the clock to coordinate responses from law enforcement, fire and medical personnel.

Chloe’s actions ensured responders were alerted quickly and were able to reach her mother without delay.

“She stayed calm and did exactly what she needed to do,”

one responder reportedly said while recognizing the young girl’s actions.

“Many adults struggle to remain composed during emergencies, but Chloe’s quick response helped get help on the way.”

Stories of children successfully calling 911 during emergencies are uncommon but often have lifesaving outcomes. Emergency communications professionals routinely encourage families to teach children how to dial 911, know their address and understand when to call for help. Similar incidents around the country have led emergency officials to recognize young callers whose composure and clear communication helped save lives.

For residents of Georgetown and the Divide, Chloe’s story is a reminder that emergency preparedness begins at home. Teaching children basic emergency skills can prove invaluable when unexpected situations arise.

While Chloe may be only seven years old, many in the community are calling her a hero. Her actions demonstrated courage, maturity and presence of mind well beyond her years.

As word of the incident spreads through Georgetown, neighbors and community members have praised the young girl for stepping up when her mother needed her most.
