CAMERON PARK, Calif. — A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle along Cameron Park Drive late Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. on northbound Cameron Park Drive, just north of Meder Road, a heavily traveled roadway connecting neighborhoods, schools and businesses in the heart of Cameron Park. Preliminary information from the CHP indicates a black Kia traveling northbound left the roadway and entered the sidewalk, where it struck a man who was also walking northbound. The impact threw the pedestrian into a nearby drainage ditch.

Emergency personnel responded within minutes and transported the victim to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the man later died at the hospital. Authorities have not yet released his identity pending notification of next of kin.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. As of this report, the CHP has not announced whether speed, impairment, distraction or a medical emergency contributed to the collision. Investigators continue working to determine why the vehicle left the roadway.

“Investigators are still working to determine why the vehicle left the roadway,” the California Highway Patrol said in its preliminary public statement regarding the incident.

The fatal crash temporarily disrupted traffic along Cameron Park Drive while emergency crews treated the victim and investigators documented evidence at the scene. Cameron Park Drive serves as one of the primary north-south routes through the community, carrying daily commuter traffic between residential neighborhoods, local schools and commercial centers near U.S. Highway 50.

For residents of El Dorado County, the incident is another reminder of the risks faced by pedestrians on busy arterial roads where sidewalks run adjacent to higher-speed traffic. Although investigators have not indicated that roadway design contributed to the collision, the circumstances surrounding the vehicle leaving the roadway remain a central focus of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol.

The investigation remains active, and additional details—including the victim’s identity and the cause of the crash—are expected to be released as they become available.
