PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Residents of El Dorado County can expect a mixed bag of spring weather this week as cooler overnight lows give way to gradual warming and clearer skies toward the weekend. A shortwave trough moving across Northern California will bring a brief window of unsettled weather early in the week, followed by a warming trend mid- to late-week.

At an elevation of approximately 904 feet — including Placerville and surrounding Motherlode communities — tonight’s skies will remain clear and colder, with overnight lows dropping between 39 and 47 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds will be light, though gusts could reach up to 30 mph before calming after sundown.

Monday brings a return of moisture to the area with partly cloudy conditions and a chance of morning showers, shifting to mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. High temperatures are forecast to range from 55 to 65 degrees in the foothills. The National Weather Service in Sacramento advises residents to remain alert during afternoon hours, especially if thunderstorm activity increases.

“Although the storms will likely be scattered, brief heavy downpours and isolated lightning strikes are possible,” the NWS stated in its morning discussion. “This is typical for a spring transition pattern and not expected to produce widespread impacts.”

Monday night will see a slow clearing trend with mostly cloudy skies early and partial clearing after midnight. Lows will range from 38 to 46 degrees with light southwesterly winds.

By Tuesday, warmer air begins to move in. Expect partly cloudy skies and a slight chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms, with temperatures climbing to 56–70 degrees. That warming trend will continue through Wednesday and Thursday, both forecast to be sunny and warmer, with highs between 65 and 83 degrees, depending on elevation.

The outlook for Friday through Sunday is stable and mostly dry, with partly to mostly cloudy skies Friday, then mostly clear and sunny through the weekend. Daytime temperatures will hold between 70 and 84 degrees, with mild nighttime lows between 49 and 58.

Residents are reminded that fluctuating spring conditions—especially cooler overnight temperatures and breezy afternoons—can be impactful for outdoor activities, garden planning, and fire mitigation preparations.

Up-to-date weather alerts and forecasts are available through the National Weather Service Sacramento Office.
