EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — Firefighters from several agencies responded just after 9 a.m. Wednesday to a reported fully involved two-story residential structure fire in the area of Gravel Road, according to fire officials.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the residence and immediately initiated aggressive fire suppression operations. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the main structure and an attached deck, preventing further spread, but officials said the home was ultimately a total loss.

“The residence was not salvageable due to the extent of fire involvement upon arrival,” Mosquito Fire Protection District officials said in a prepared statement. “Crews continue to work carefully through overhaul operations to address falling debris and intermittent flare-ups from remaining embers.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, the incident remained active, with firefighters focused on ensuring the fire is fully extinguished and that the area is safe. Overhaul operations can take hours, particularly in heavily damaged structures where hidden embers pose a risk of rekindling.

The response involved strong multi-agency coordination, with Mosquito Fire Protection District leading the incident and assistance provided by Garden Valley Fire Protection District, El Dorado County Fire Protection District and CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit (AEU). Officials credited coordinated teamwork for keeping the fire from spreading beyond the immediate structure.

Fire officials urged residents to avoid the Gravel Road area while crews remain on scene and to use caution around active emergency operations. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been released.

Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
