By Cris Alarcon, InEDC Writer. (April 15, 2025) — EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — County officials have issued clarifications regarding recent budget decisions following public concern over reported cuts to senior and juvenile services. The clarifications address inaccuracies in a recent news report that suggested the closure of the El Dorado Hills Senior Day Care Center and reductions in juvenile program funding.

In a statement released by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Carla Hass, the county emphasized that the El Dorado Hills Senior Day Care Center is not slated for closure. Instead, the Board of Supervisors approved a consolidation of services between the El Dorado Hills and Placerville locations. This move aims to streamline operations while maintaining service availability. Additionally, the county plans to implement incremental fee increases over the next three years to achieve full cost recovery, adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index.

Regarding juvenile services, the county clarified that the $1.7 million initially designated for upgrading the Juvenile Treatment Center will be redirected to rehabilitate the Health and Human Services building on Spring Street. This reallocation does not impact existing juvenile programs. The county also plans to explore alternative service models for juvenile detention in collaboration with regional partners.

The Board of Supervisors’ decisions were made during the April 8 meeting, where they addressed a $15.25 million budget shortfall for the upcoming fiscal year. The board directed staff to develop scenarios for 5% and 10% budget reductions for the 2026-27 fiscal year to prepare for potential future shortfalls.

In response to the initial news report, Deputy CAO Hass stated,

“I am certain we both want the same thing in this instance: An accurately informed El Dorado County citizenry about the county’s business as conducted by their elected officials.”

She encouraged the inclusion of links to Board of Supervisors’ agenda minutes and videos in future reporting to provide readers with direct access to official records.
