EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. (InEDC) — Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed John Russell of El Dorado Hills to the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, the governor’s office announced Thursday.
Russell currently serves as Executive of Operations at Sutter Health, a position he has held since 2025. His tenure at Sutter Health began in 2007, during which he has occupied several leadership roles, including Director of Area Operations, Regional Administrator, Regional Director, Director, and Manager. Prior to his administrative career, Russell worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and Floor Nurse at O’Connor Hospital from 2004 to 2007.
He holds a Doctor of Health Administration degree from Virginia University of Lynchburg, as well as both a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix.
The appointment to the board does not require Senate confirmation, and the position offers compensation of $100 per diem. Russell is registered as a Democrat.
The California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians is responsible for regulating the practice of licensed vocational nurses and psychiatric technicians, ensuring that standards of competency and safety are maintained in the delivery of care.
Russell’s extensive experience in both clinical and administrative roles positions him to contribute valuable insights to the board’s mission of overseeing vocational nursing and psychiatric technician practices in the state.
