EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. (InEDC) — An 84-year-old woman was killed and three others, including two children, were injured in a head-on collision Saturday morning on Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 7:54 a.m. near Silva Valley Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Investigators said a 2023 Dodge Charger, driven eastbound by 34-year-old Cheyenne Wright, veered off the south edge of the road, struck a raised asphalt curb, then reentered the roadway, crossed over the double yellow lines, and collided head-on with a westbound 2023 Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Camry, identified by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office as Joan Allison, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of her vehicle.
Wright sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. She was later arrested in connection with the crash. Two children in the Dodge Charger, a 7-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
CHP officials stated that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. They have not ruled out alcohol or drugs as contributing factors.
Green Valley Road was closed for several hours following the incident as emergency crews responded and investigators worked at the scene.
This tragic incident adds to a series of serious accidents on Green Valley Road in recent months. In February, a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries at the intersection with Francisco Drive
Residents and local officials have expressed growing concern over safety on Green Valley Road, citing increased traffic and previous accidents. Discussions about implementing additional safety measures, such as speed limit reductions and improved signage, are ongoing.
