PLACERVILLE, Calif. — El Dorado County will host a grand opening ceremony for the long-awaited Missouri Flat Road Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in a public event designed to celebrate increased trail safety and regional connectivity. The event begins with a free family-friendly community bike ride along the El Dorado Trail, culminating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new overcrossing.
The event is a collaboration between the El Dorado County Parks and Trails Division, the El Dorado County Transportation Commission, and the Friends of El Dorado Trail, and aims to raise awareness about trail safety and active transportation.
Participants are invited to gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Ray Lawyer Park & Ride Parking Lot on Forni Road. The bike ride will proceed along the El Dorado Trail to the Old Depot Bike Park, arriving at the overcrossing for the official ceremony from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m.
The Missouri Flat Overcrossing is a key piece in El Dorado County’s vision to improve non-motorized travel options and enhance safety by separating pedestrians and cyclists from vehicle traffic along the busy commercial corridor.
“This project represents years of planning and community collaboration,” said Amanda Ross, Parks and Trails Program Manager.
“It’s a huge step toward safer, more connected recreational and commuting options for our residents.”
The overcrossing connects previously segmented portions of the El Dorado Trail, a popular multi-use trail spanning the county from Placerville to Camino and beyond. The infrastructure upgrade is especially significant for families, cyclists, and walkers seeking uninterrupted access to scenic and recreational areas.
Community members can learn more about the El Dorado Trail by visiting the County’s trail webpage and can view specific project updates via the Department of Transportation’s trail projects page.
