EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — A longtime neighborhood café has closed its doors in El Dorado Hills, ending the Park Drive chapter of Bella Bru Café after its final day of service on Jan. 31, 2026.

The Bella Bru Café at 3941 Park Drive operated as a franchise of the regional café brand and was under the ownership of Chris Kado for the past four years. The closure removes a familiar breakfast and lunch destination from one of El Dorado Hills’ established commercial areas.

In a message to customers, the owners said the decision to close was difficult and came only after efforts to keep the business operating had been exhausted.

“Running a small business in California comes with many challenges, and we truly did everything we could to keep our doors open,” the owners said in the announcement.

The owners also expressed gratitude to customers and employees, emphasizing the relationships and memories created during the café’s years in El Dorado Hills.

A Business Closure Felt Beyond the Café

For many El Dorado Hills residents, Bella Bru was more than a place to grab breakfast or coffee. Its role as a neighborhood café made it a regular meeting point for residents, families and friends.

The El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce acknowledged the closure with a statement reflecting the broader impact of losing an established local business.

“Another unfortunate day in our community, a long-standing and beloved business has chosen to close its doors.”

The Chamber also offered its best wishes to Bella Bru’s remaining locations.

The café’s closure comes amid continued discussion throughout California about the pressures facing small businesses, including operating costs and the broader business environment. Bella Bru’s owners did not publicly identify a single specific expense or economic factor responsible for the decision, instead pointing generally to the challenges of operating a small business in California.

Bella Bru’s Local History

Bella Bru was founded by Elizabeth Mishler in Carmichael in 1993 and eventually expanded its footprint to several Sacramento-region communities, including El Dorado Hills and Natomas. The El Dorado Hills operation was a franchise rather than a corporate-owned café.

The Park Drive location had become part of the El Dorado Hills business landscape for years, serving breakfast, lunch, coffee and other café fare. The former location’s address was listed as 3941 Park Drive, El Dorado Hills, California 95762.

While the El Dorado Hills restaurant is now permanently closed, Bella Bru’s other locations continue to operate in the Sacramento region, including its original Carmichael location and the Natomas café.

Another Change for the El Dorado Hills Business Community

The closure is another reminder of how quickly the commercial landscape in El Dorado Hills can change. Long-established restaurants and cafés often become informal community institutions, making their departure noticeable well beyond the business’s immediate customer base.

For residents who regularly met friends over coffee, stopped in for breakfast or considered Bella Bru part of their routine, the Jan. 31 closing represented more than the end of another restaurant lease. It marked the loss of a familiar gathering place in the community.

As El Dorado Hills continues to grow, the departure of Bella Bru leaves another open question for the Park Drive business corridor: what will take its place, and whether the next occupant can establish the same neighborhood connection that made the café a recognizable part of the local community.
