PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Marshall’s new interim chief executive officer is seeking to reassure patients, employees and residents across El Dorado County that the organization’s commitment to local healthcare remains unchanged following a recent leadership transition.

In a letter addressed to the community, Dr. Martin Entwistle officially introduced himself as Marshall’s interim chief executive officer, acknowledging recent changes in hospital leadership while emphasizing continuity in the organization’s mission.

“As I step into this role, I do so with great humility and an unwavering commitment to the people we serve,” Entwistle wrote.

A physician and longtime healthcare executive, Entwistle said his approach to leadership is rooted in listening, compassion and service to the community—principles he said will continue guiding Marshall as it moves forward.

“While leadership may change, our mission does not,” he wrote.

Marshall remains one of El Dorado County’s largest healthcare providers, serving patients from Placerville, Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills, Georgetown, Pollock Pines and surrounding foothill communities. The organization provides emergency medicine, primary and specialty care, cancer treatment, maternity services, rehabilitation and other essential healthcare services that allow many residents to receive care close to home rather than traveling to Sacramento.

Entwistle highlighted the people who make those services possible, noting that more than 1,400 employees, physicians and volunteers work throughout the organization each day.

“Every day, more than 1,400 dedicated employees, physicians and volunteers come to work with one purpose: caring for our neighbors, families and friends,” he said. “Whether it’s a life-saving emergency, welcoming a new baby, supporting someone through cancer treatment, or helping a patient regain their independence, the people of Marshall are here when our community needs us most.”

The message comes as healthcare organizations nationwide continue to face workforce shortages, rising operating costs and increasing demand for medical services. Against that backdrop, Entwistle said Marshall intends to remain focused on strengthening local healthcare while preserving its independence.

“I am incredibly optimistic about Marshall’s future,” he wrote. “We have a talented and compassionate team, a strong foundation, and a shared purpose that inspires us every day.”

Looking ahead, Entwistle said Marshall plans to continue expanding access to healthcare services while remaining a trusted independent provider for El Dorado County residents.

“Together, we will continue to strengthen local healthcare, expand access to the services our community needs, and ensure Marshall remains an independent, trusted healthcare provider for generations to come,” he wrote.

For many El Dorado County residents, Marshall serves as the region’s primary community healthcare system, making leadership transitions closely watched by patients, employees and local officials alike. Entwistle concluded his message by thanking the community for its continued trust and reaffirming Marshall’s commitment to serving local families.

“It is a privilege to serve this remarkable community, and I look forward to continuing our mission as we continue building a healthier future for El Dorado County.”
