A Different Kind of Support for the Badge

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — Law enforcement work is demanding enough without ignoring the physical and mental toll it can take on the people wearing the badge.

For the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, one local resident has made it his business to help.

El Dorado County Arrests: Sept. 5–6

September 7, 2026

The Sheriff’s Office recently recognized Jon Meyer as its Citizen of the Year, crediting him with providing sustained support to the agency’s employee Wellness Program and, more importantly, to the people participating in it.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Meyer has consistently made himself available to employees — encouraging them, answering questions, sharing his knowledge and helping them remain motivated as they work toward their individual fitness goals.

The department described his contribution simply:

“Jon genuinely cares about helping people be healthier and feel their best, and that support has meant a lot to our team.”

Turning a Holiday Challenge Into Real Progress

One of Meyer’s contributions came during the Sheriff’s Office “Maintain, Don’t Gain” holiday challenge.

The program challenged employees to maintain their fitness and avoid unwanted weight gain during the stretch from Halloween through New Year’s — a period when holiday meals, parties and disrupted routines can easily derail even the best intentions.

But according to the Sheriff’s Office, employees did more than simply hold the line.

With Meyer’s support, department personnel made what the agency described as significant progress toward becoming healthier and more fit.

That distinction matters.

A wellness program can provide information and incentives. Sustained improvement, however, generally requires someone willing to keep participants engaged after the initial enthusiasm fades.

That is where Meyer’s role became particularly important.

More Than a Fitness Program

Meyer is a familiar name in the local fitness and nutrition community.

He operates Max Muscle Placerville, where he provides nutrition products and fitness-related guidance to customers in the foothill community. Earlier reporting on Meyer also identified him as the owner of the Placerville business and highlighted his involvement in athletic training and nutrition.

His work with the Sheriff’s Office extends that interest beyond a commercial setting.

Rather than simply offering a workout plan, Meyer has become a resource for employees looking for practical advice and encouragement as they pursue better health.

That support is particularly relevant in a profession where physical readiness can be directly connected to job performance.

Deputies may spend portions of their workdays behind desks, in patrol vehicles or handling administrative responsibilities. But the job can also demand sudden bursts of physical exertion, long hours and the ability to perform under considerable stress.

Maintaining physical fitness is therefore not simply a matter of appearance.

It can be part of being prepared for the job.

A Community Partnership

The Sheriff’s Office’s recognition of Meyer also underscores a broader role community members can play in supporting local law enforcement.

Not every contribution involves fundraising, public safety programs or emergency response.

Sometimes it involves helping the people who perform those jobs remain healthy enough to do them.

The department’s recognition specifically emphasized Meyer’s willingness to “encourage, answer questions, share his knowledge, and help keep people motivated with their fitness goals.”

That may sound straightforward.

For employees trying to make lasting changes, however, consistent encouragement can be the difference between starting a program and sticking with it.

The Sheriff’s Office publicly thanked Meyer for that commitment, saying his support has meant a great deal to its team. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office recognition of Jon Meyer

Recognizing the Person Behind the Contribution

Citizen of the Year awards often recognize a single dramatic contribution — a major donation, an extraordinary act of courage or years of public service.

Meyer’s recognition represents something different.

It recognizes consistent, personal involvement.

His contribution has been measured in conversations, encouragement, fitness guidance and the willingness to help sheriff’s employees stay accountable to goals that are easy to abandon.

For a law enforcement agency, that kind of support can have an impact well beyond the gym.

A healthier workforce can mean employees who are better prepared physically, more conscious of their well-being and better equipped to handle the demands of public safety work.

For Meyer, the reward appears to be helping people feel better and perform at their best.

For the Sheriff’s Office, it was enough to earn him the title of Citizen of the Year.

And in a profession built around serving the community, the department’s message is clear: sometimes the people helping those who wear the badge are citizens standing right alongside them.
