Placerville, Calif. — El Dorado County District 2 Supervisor George Turnboo has extended heartfelt gratitude to Congressman Kevin Kiley for his unwavering efforts to secure federal assistance for survivors of the 2021 Caldor Fire. This devastating wildfire ravaged communities, notably Grizzly Flats, leaving many residents in dire need of support.

Supervisor Turnboo’s office has persistently sought FEMA Individual Assistance for those affected, facing multiple denials despite the extensive damage inflicted by the fire. In a recent newsletter, Turnboo highlighted Kiley’s dedication, stating, “Special thanks to the Honorable Congressman Kevin Kiley for speaking to President Donald J. Trump about the 2021 Caldor Fire and the broken promises to survivors.”

The Caldor Fire, which burned from August 14 to October 21, 2021, destroyed over 1,000 structures and severely impacted the Grizzly Flats community.

Despite the magnitude of the disaster, FEMA denied Individual Assistance requests, prompting local officials to seek alternative avenues for aid.

Congressman Kiley has been at the forefront of advocacy efforts, engaging with federal authorities to address the unmet needs of fire survivors. His commitment includes discussions with President Trump to emphasize the importance of fulfilling promises made to the affected communities. Turnboo’s office remains hopeful that, with Kiley’s continued support, FEMA will reconsider its stance and provide the necessary assistance.

The collaborative efforts between local and federal representatives underscore a shared commitment to ensuring that the survivors of the Caldor Fire receive the support they need to rebuild and recover.
