El Dorado Hills Community Services District (CSD) Board President Steve Ferry joined a coalition of public officials and district leaders at the California State Capitol last week to advocate for policies affecting special districts, including those in El Dorado County.

The occasion was the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) Legislative Days, an annual event that draws administrators and board members from across the state to meet with lawmakers and state agency representatives. The 2025 gathering focused on issues such as infrastructure funding, wildfire resilience, water conservation, and local governance authority.

Ferry met with state legislators and policy staff to highlight the unique challenges and opportunities faced by El Dorado Hills and its surrounding communities.

“Being at the Capitol ensures our local needs are not just heard—but prioritized,”

Ferry said.

“Whether it’s securing funding for parks or making sure wildfire mitigation strategies are effective and realistic, local voices matter.”

The CSDA Legislative Days event is regarded as a key opportunity for special districts to influence legislative outcomes in Sacramento. According to CSDA, California is home to more than 2,000 independent special districts, which provide essential services such as fire protection, parks and recreation, water management, and more.

In recent years, El Dorado Hills CSD has taken on a more proactive advocacy role, particularly as growth, climate conditions, and state regulations place increasing demands on local services. Ferry’s presence this year continues a trend of community-oriented leadership aimed at protecting local control and improving quality of life for residents.
