Ted Gaines Takes Early Lead in District 4 Supervisor Race

PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Former state legislator Ted Gaines has established an early lead in the race for El Dorado County’s Fourth District Supervisor seat, according to preliminary election results released Tuesday night.

With approximately 33% of the vote reported, Gaines received 3,962 votes, representing 46.33% of ballots counted so far.

Trailing Gaines is Gina Posey with 2,226 votes, or 26.03%. Greg Clark follows with 1,650 votes, accounting for 19.30% of the vote. Robert J. Deitz II received 702 votes, or 8.21%, while write-in candidates collectively received 11 votes, representing 0.13%.

A total of 8,551 ballots have been counted in the race to date.

The early returns place Gaines nearly 20 percentage points ahead of his nearest competitor, giving him a substantial advantage as additional ballots continue to be processed. However, election officials caution that preliminary results can shift as more vote-by-mail, provisional, and Election Day ballots are counted in the days following the election.

The contest has drawn significant attention across the Fourth District, which encompasses communities throughout northern and eastern portions of El Dorado County. The seat carries considerable influence over county policy decisions involving public safety, land use, transportation, infrastructure, economic development, and county budgeting.

While Gaines appears well-positioned in the initial count, the battle for second place remains noteworthy, with Posey maintaining a lead over Clark by fewer than 600 votes. As additional results are released, candidates and supporters will be watching closely to see whether current trends hold.

Election officials are expected to continue updating vote totals as ballot processing continues. Final certified results will not be available until all eligible ballots have been counted and canvassed.
