On January 11, SLTPD officers responded to a shoplifting incident at a local retail store. The suspect had fled prior to their arrival, but surveillance footage enabled officers to identify the individual. The 37-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident, found to have multiple prior theft convictions, was subsequently arrested and charged with felony theft under Proposition 36. The stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.

After reviewing security video, officers apprehended a 41-year-old man, also from South Lake Tahoe, who had several prior theft convictions. He was charged with felony theft, and additional stolen items from another retailer were found in his possession, leading to further charges.
