PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The Placerville softball community is mourning the loss of a longtime player following a medical emergency that occurred during an Adult Softball League game this week.

The City of Placerville announced that a participant experienced a medical emergency during Adult Softball League play on Wednesday, June 10. City staff immediately coordinated with emergency responders and family members as the incident unfolded.

In a public statement, city officials expressed sympathy for those affected and asked the community to respect the privacy of the family.

“City Council, Staff and volunteers send our heartfelt prayers to the family during this difficult time,” the city stated. “We understand many have questions or concerns, however, out of respect for our participating families and close friends no details or specific information will be shared.”

The city also encouraged anyone seeking support to contact the Community Services Department at (530) 642-5232.

While city officials did not release the participant’s identity, members of the local softball community identified the player as Scott Beal, a familiar presence on local fields for many years.

Among those sharing condolences was fellow player Tim Simmons, who reflected on decades of competition and friendship.

“My Heart goes out to Scott Beal’s kids and family!!! I played softball against him for 15 years plus!! He played the game with all his heart and loved the game!! And to be able to play the game with one of his babies!! Is so freaking Awesome!!! RIP!!!” Simmons wrote in a social media post.

Friends and teammates described Beal as a dedicated competitor whose enthusiasm for softball helped make him a respected figure within Placerville’s recreational sports community. Several players noted that his passion for the game extended beyond competition and included sharing the sport with family members.

The incident has cast a somber mood over the local softball league, where many participants have spent years building friendships both on and off the field. Community members have continued to offer prayers, condolences and support to Beal’s family as they navigate the difficult days ahead.

City officials have indicated that no additional information will be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.

Residents seeking support or information related to city recreation programs may contact the City of Placerville Community Services Department.
