Initial utility location work will commence on April 21, with single-lane closures scheduled from Sundays at 8 p.m. through Fridays at noon on short sections of U.S. 50 between Spooner Summit (near the State Route 28 intersection) and the Nevada-California border at Stateline. These closures are expected to cause moderate travel delays.

Beginning May 1, full roadway repaving work will start, leading to lane reductions on longer sections of the highway. The construction will continue through October 2025 and resume from April through October 2026.

Key details of the project include:

  • Single-lane closures from Sundays at 8 p.m. through Fridays at noon on sections of U.S. 50 between Spooner Summit and the Nevada-California border at Stateline.

  • A minimum of one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

  • Speed limits reduced to 35 mph through work zones.

  • Access to businesses and residences will be maintained, though certain side streets and driveways may experience temporary impacts during excavation.

  • Lane reductions will not occur during major holidays or special events.

NDOT advises drivers to plan for moderate travel delays and to stay informed about current highway conditions by visiting the Caltrans QuickMap at roads.dot.ca.gov.

This project aims to enhance roadway safety and longevity, ensuring smoother travel for residents and visitors in the Lake Tahoe region.

For more information and updates, please visit the NDOT website or contact their public information office.
